Naples Garbage: a model for understandig the damage

Many year later the "garbage emergency" the Regione Campania has developed a quantitative modeling to know the human damage of trash. The model is call  MIRARE (Modello Integrato Rischio Ambientale a scala REgionale).
Naples
The data are then fed into the model covering the pollutants involved, the mapping of the area concerned, the dislocation of civil and industrial waste water, the location and type of industrial or agricultural roduction activities in the area, the location of population centers which can go on to affect the pollutants, and the characteristics of the hydrographic network, which are used to calculate the law of transportation of pollutantsin the network. The human hazard, cause of the many pollutants released in the air and into the ground (then contaminate water), is very high; but the situation of the waste management don't seem improve. The model can be used both in the planning phase of emergency situations stationary: time of forecasting of pollutants flows it's just few minutes. Even if it arrive late, is a good start to model this serious form of pollution.

Landslide and Golf

From The Landslide Blog, written by Dave Petley, Professor of Durham University.
An interesting article about a hydrogeological hazard, which in this case touches the sport. Golf, exaclty.
The heavy rains of this weekend, in Scotland, triggered two landslides, along the course of Scottish Open Golf Tournament, at the Castle Stuart near to Iverness.
There were any dangers for the human, but the sport challenge had to be shortened from 72 to 54 holes, because the torrential rains, left the course unplayble.
